Old News Items

September 17, 2008

We may be the worst band ever in terms of timely updates to our website (what with the nearly 1 year interval since the last update), but Andy has been busy and has released a new solo record, Seagull, featuring 13 new songs. It is available from CD Baby from the link above, as is the CD single for "One More Round".

Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 22! We will be appearing at Clearwater Theater in West Dundee, IL, with classic rockers Old School. We are planning to unleash as many as 4 new Gecko songs at this show.

Here's the scoop on the Engage Internet Radio events next week...
The New Music Awards show is Thursday, October 11; on the strength of "Had a Secret" reaching the Hall of Fame, Andy will be performing during this show. He is also doing a live internet broadcast on Friday at 2:00 pm, and a showcase performance that evening at 9:00. All of those events take place at the Artist Development Complex in Southbridge MA.

For all you Gecko fans in Erie, PA, Andy will also do a show at the Border's Cafe on Saturday.

Following that he will return to Chicago.

Lots of cool news to report...

"Kaleidoscope" has been near the top of the Engage Ingernet Radio charts for the last 10 weeks. Keep those votes coming, and help us land two songs in their Hall of Fame in 2007!

Speaking of which, Andy will be traveling to the Boston area to perform "Had a Secret" at the Engage Hall of Fame Awards show on Thursday October 11, and a showcase gig over the weekend. The rest of the band are quite depressed at being unable to join Andy on this momentous occasion, but the day jobs have a nasty habit of getting in the way of the band at times. However, all of you Gecko Club fans in the Boston area, please try to come and see Andy's showcase. (more details on where it is once we get them!) If it goes well, we hope to get the whole band out your way soon!

Lastly, we have gotten some nice reviews in the last couple months for Evergreen from Kweevak.com/Soundpress.net and Pop Matters.

July 28, 2007

Following up on the success of "Had a Secret", Engage Internet Radio has added "Kaleidoscope" to their rotation. Thanks to all you Gecko fans, "Kaleidoscope" made its debut at #6 on the Engage Most Requested chart! Please continue to vote for "Kaleidoscope" each week.

In other news, we're busy preparing for the August 10 show at the Riverwalk in downtown Naperville. It's been a while since we've done a full-band show, and we're looking forward to once again unleashing the electric Gecko.

July 3, 2007

After 13 consecutive weeks in the Engage top 10, "Had a Secret" has been retired to the Hall of Fame. Thanks to everyone who voted. We're expecting the Engage folks to select a second track soon. Stay tuned for more information about that.

In the meantime, Don't Panic! We are a Featured Artist in this month's Kweevak Music Magazine. In an infinitely improbable coincidence, this is issue #42, which is clearly a sign that the ultimate answer to your musical needs is our Evergreen CD!

We'd like to welcome all the readers of Kweevak to our site. Please also check out our myspace page.

April 25, 2007

3 weeks later and "Had a Secret" is still in the top 3 on Engage Internet Radio! Keep those votes coming, we really appreciate it.

April 1, 2007

No joke here, we ended our first week on Engage Internet Radio at #2!
Please continue to vote for "Had a Secret" once each week from each computer you use. (also from your internet-equipped cell phone, Blackberry, etc.)

March 25, 2007

We received great news from Engage Internet Radio - they are adding "Had a Secret" from our Evergreen CD to their playlist through the end of June! The number of spins it gets depends on popularity, and that's where you, the loyal Gecko Club fans, come in...

We need you to vote for "Had a Secret" once each week from each computer you use. More votes means more spins, and several weeks in the top 10 means they will add another track (please email us your suggestions for the second single!)

January 26, 2007

Again, it's been a while since we've updated...

Andy has booked a number of acoustic shows for this year. Check out the list of dates to see where and when. We're also working on adding a number of full band shows, so stay tuned for updates on that as well.

Evergreen is finally available on iTunes. The most downloaded individual tracks so far are "Penguin Song" and "Pretty Victoria".

October 21, 2006

Wow, 2 months since our last update here...

Those of you in the far northwest suburbs know Andy has been busy playing acoustic shows at many Border's locations. The next date is Saturday 11/25 in Algonquin, and is a great way to enjoy your post-Thanksgiving weekend!

For some reason Evergreen is not yet available on iTunes, but you can get our other CDs there:

We'll let you know as soon as Evergreen becomes available on iTunes.

June 27, 2006

Thanks to all who came to one or more of our shows in June. It was a busy month... For those keeping score at home, that was indeed Andy and friends on both June 21 and June 23 at the Riverwalk in Naperville... the scheduled band on Friday cancelled, and we were happy to take the empty slot on short notice and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Extra special thanks to those who also bought one or more CDs! If you have not yet purchased your copy of evergreen, you were no doubt waiting for the chance to buy digitally from iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic, ... Well, wait no longer - all 15 songs are now available through those channels.

Be sure to check out Andy's blog at myspace.com! Leave your comments there, he really does read everything.

Also, we have added a half-dozen more shows to the summer schedule. Andy and friends will open the Naperville Riverwalk concert series with an acoustic show on June 21, and the full band will close the series on August 11! Thanks to the Naperville Park District for having us back.

We're also expecting to have a very special announcement about a Chicago show in September - check back for more details.

May 22, 2006

Evergreen should be back from the replication plant this week! The graphics look great, the music sounds even better. Look for it on CD Baby soon!

Also look for some new shows to be announced soon!

April 5, 2006

After many long years, we are nearly ready to unleash 15 new Gecko songs for all of you to hear (and there was much rejoicing... yeah!). Two weeks ago, the mastering for the new CD, Evergreen, was completed! Thanks to the wonderful work of Dan at Colossal Mastering, it sounds fantastic.

Look for future updates with the offical release date, an MP3 for free, legal download, and information on shows celebrating the release of Evergreen soon.

In the meantime, don't forget Andy's April acoustic shows.

February 26, 2006

Thanks to all who came to see Andy's solo show (with a few friends) at Border's last night. Tonight we'll be making a few more tweaks to the mixes for the new CD... look for it here and at CD Baby in early spring!

January 25 2006

The second leg of the Gecko Acoustic Tour of the Northwest Suburbs gets underway this weekend. Also for those fans in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, mark your calendars for June 15, as we will be at the Terminal Bar that night.

Our second CD, Evergreen, is nearly done! We finished mixing a couple weeks ago. We will be fine-tuning the mixes over the next few weeks, then turn things over to the mastering and replication people. CDs should be available by spring! October 24 2005

The Gecko Acoustic Tour of the Northwest Suburbs gets underway this weekend!

Belated thanks to all who came to the August show at the riverwalk in Naperville. It was by far our best set in a long while.

July 29 2005

Thanks to all who came and saw the acoustic show at the riverwalk in Naperville. Special thanks to Andy's friends Dave and Chris (not to be confused with Dave and Chris of Gecko Club fame) for joining us on a half a dozen songs.

If you missed this show, or even if you didn't, be sure to catch us on August 19, again at the riverwalk in Naperville. We hope to have some promo CDs ready to go by then.

May 1 2005 News update from Andy:

Hi everyone (anyone?) and thanks for checking in with us on the web. Here are the latest happenings with us:

On the CD front - we are knee deep in pro-tools mixing disc 2. The songs sound amazing and i think the final product will more than justify the wait. Key tracks for me (this week) are " pretty victoria " , " sixteen different ways " , " breaking the well " , and " evergreen " . Hopefully we can get some mid-late mix mp3s posted soon for your preview.

On the gig front - I'm thrilled to announce a solo gig on July 20 and a full-blown Gecko Club show on August 19. Both shows will be sponsored by the Naperville Park District and will happen at the Naperville Riverwalk (directions forthcoming).

On the writing front - despite the zillion distractions of everyday life, I remain fully in love with the songwriting process and have continued to write throughout the long process of recording and mixing our new disc. I'm looking forward to getting started on a second solo disc (again likely to showcase my more acoustic side) and to start breaking in some new Gecko material with the band.

On the buy our music front - Both the first Gecko Club disc and the Andrew D. Huber solo disc are available via CD Baby and also on about 30 different digital sites, including iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, MusicNet, MusicMatch, and Audio Lunchbox. We will post a complete list in the near future.

On the fan front - digital distribution has opened us up to a whole new audience. A huge hello and thank you to our new international supporters, particularly those throughout the U.K. and Western Europe. your support and interest is inspiring and I'd love to hear from you

And some other stuff, just because - Had the pleasure of seeing a great show by Paul Westerberg and His Only friends the other week..... I'm anxiously awaiting the upcoming compilation from The Fat Lady Sings, as well as the upcoming live disc from the Waterboys and reissues from Big Country..... the blue Ibanez and the Seagull remain my two main guitars, although I added a Wechter with Florentine cutaway that plays like heaven... come back and visit soon. ~adh September 2004

Thanks to everyone that came to see us at the Riverwalk in Naperville on August 20, and special thanks to those who bought CDs! We had a great time playing that show.

Our next show is Saturday, September 25, at St. Theresa's Harvest Fest in Palatine.

We're also busy mixing the long-awaited second CD... check back often for updates and audio clips.

Summer 2004

Good grief Charlie Brown! It's been a year since we updated this page!

In the last year, we've moved ever-so-slightly closer to completing our second CD. We promise to finish it before we break Boston's record for longest time between CDs. A couple of "sweetener" tracks are all that stand between us and the mixing room now. Look for a release date some time in early 2005.

Andy has joined the rest of us in Chicagoland, opening up many opportunities to play live shows... so we went ahead and scheduled some for August and September. Look for more shows in the coming months.

Summer 2003

We've updated the site a bit, adding a page for Andy's solo album as well as some new press for both CDs.

Thanks to everyone at GE Commercial Finance (in whatever northwest Chicago suburb it was) for having us play at your party and for helping us out with the vocals.

Thanks also to Marty Peters of Recording magazine for the nice words in the latest issue about "The Present" from our first CD, "tokens, trash, or tarot cards."  And thanks to the folks at Impact Press and Dirty Linen for mentioning "Ten Songs from the Side Room" in recent issues.  See the reviews page for all the details.

The combination of Andy and Dave's guitars on the new CD is incredible.

Spring 2003
Andy's solo CD, "Ten Songs from the Side Room," is now available from CD Baby.

Thanks to you folks in Germany and Spain that are playing our first CD, "tokens, trash, or tarot cards."

Tracking for the new Gecko CD continues.  Sometimes it seems like we will never finish this project,
the basic tracks were done so long ago...  We're still aiming to be done this year.
Thanks in advance for your patience - we promise the new CD will be worth the wait!

Autumn 2002
The new album is just gonna be so damn good.  Andy's guitar parts are about 98% finished and things are really taking shape.
Dave's parts are going to open up a whole new world - the whole thing is almost too exciting sometimes...
still liking Uncle Mittens for the title.  Perhaps "Uncle Mittens: the Official Bypass of the Sophomore Slump"?
God willing, look for the cd and some shows (yes, actual shows) in 2003.

Summer 2002
Guitars guitars guitars... Dave is working out some new parts and Andy is deep into recording...
Tom just upgraded the studio to a pro tools set-up...
Andy got to meet one of his songwriting idols, Mr. Paul Westerberg, this August.  Likely he won't recover from the
experience for quite some time! gecko life is good...
Thanks to our new fans in Buffalo, NY for checking out the Tokens release - let us know where to play, we'd love to be there.

Spring 2002
Straight from out of nowhere - Andy finished a solo disc in May.  Heavy on the acoustic guitar, very melodic, and a different
side to his writing:  "Lyrically, Gecko songs are like conversations I have with myself.  The solo disc is more akin to conversations with
other people."  The disc is entitled "Ten Songs from the Side Room" and should be available through this website by Christmas.

Gecko recording will be back up and running in short order (as in next week or so).
Thanks to our new fans in Minneapolis for buying our Tokens release - you make it all worthwhile.

Winter 2001
Not a lot of progress on the recording side due to some overwhelming professional constraints (bills still have to be paid afterall).
Rest assured, the new album is on all of our minds every day and we are eager to make it great.
Special thanks to our new fans in Brazil and Maine who recently bought "tokens, trash, or tarot cards."  Hope you like it and stay tuned for disc#2!
Oh --  and check this out --  Andy won a brand new Gibson Les Paul and Gibson Goldtone Amplifier from Musician's Friend in February.  The tonal palette has just expanded!

Autumn 2001
Tracking for the new album has begun!
The band holed up in not-so-spacious Arclight Studios (also known as Tom's basement) for a few days in late August.
Inspired by  Andrew's  ridiculous glitter-green high-tops, we emerged with some wonderful basic tracks,
including a longer-than-expected arrangement of "Evergreen."

Summer 2001
Preproduction on a new Gecko Club CD, tentatively titled Uncle Mittens, has begun.
The new recording will feature the same lineup as  "tokens, trash, or tarot cards," with the addition of  David Geist  on guitar.
Our favorite songs so far are "Pretty Victoria" and "Breaking the Well."
In addition, we plan to re-record "Kaleidoscope," which appeared on an obscure demo many years ago...

Spring 2001
As you probably noticed, we haven't been playing (m)any shows... Drummer Extraordinaire Chris Kahl has been involved in a side project that has consumed most of his time lately.  Andrew has been busy playing acoustic shows on the Indianapolis bookstore circuit, though.

Winter 2000
The Gecko Club is thrilled to announce that our CD is now available from Amazon.com and CD Baby, in addition to our long-standing availability through CD Street.

If you haven't purchased your back-up copy yet, do so now!

The band loves mail from you!!! Write to them at:
